After starting the year with an unsavory 1-6 record, JMU women’s soccer completely turned its season around en route to a CAA Regular Season Title. The Dukes, who take the No. 1 seed into the conference tournament, took home a handful of CAA honors earlier today.
CAA Coach of the Year:
- JMU’s Joshua Walters
All-CAA First Team:
- Junior Forward Haley Crawford
- Sophomore Forward Ginger Deel
All-CAA Second Team:
- Junior Goalkeeper Hannah McShea
- Freshman Defender Sarah Gordon
All-CAA Third Team:
- Redshirt Freshman Forward Hannah Coulling
Summary:
The start to the season was shaky, but Walters knows what he’s doing. He’s a talented coach with a great recruiting track record. In his first season, he’s taken players he didn’t recruit and helped develop them into CAA Regular Season Champs with five players named to All-CAA squads. Maybe more importantly, none of those players are seniors. The future looks extremely bright for JMU women’s soccer.
The year isn’t over quite yet, however, as the CAA Tournament remains. By earning the No. 1 seed, JMU earns home-field advantage throughout the tournament. The Dukes begin play on Sunday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Friday’s match between fourth-seeded Charleston and fifth-seeded Drexel.
