JMU Women’s Basketball’s Season Ends with WBIT Loss

Photo and story by Ben Hofer

JMU women’s basketball (23-12) fell to Stony Brook 81-70 in a first round exit from the inaugural WBIT.

The Dukes fought hard to overcome a scorching hot Stony Brook team (28-4), which shot 42% from beyond the arc. Even though the Dukes tied the ball game a few times and took narrow leads, Stony Brook seemed to have an answer with a steal or a three on every occasion.

Although it was not the Dukes’ night in the AUBC, they ended the 2023-24 campaign with a respectable record of 23-12. They were the SBC Tournament runner up, coming inches short of making the Big Dance.

Fortunately, the Dukes project to return a massive amount of production in the 2024-25 season as the only graduating seniors are Hevynne Bristow and Carole Miller. Both of whom were great additions to the roster this year and contributed greatly to the Dukes’ regular season success. Dukes fans can look forward for the revenge tour of Peyton McDaniel, Kseniia Kozlova, and company.
