It’s that time of the year. Want to keep track of JMU football’s offseason roster moves? We’ll do our best to stay updated with the Dukes’ portal additions and departures.
This is the first portal class of the Billy Napier era. Bob Chesney and Curt Cignetti loved to bring in D3/D2/FCS players. Will Napier follow that model?
Transfer additions
Baylen Woodman, K (6′ and 185 lbs), Middle Tennessee — Woodman will likely be the Dukes’ kickoff specialist in 2026 after holding that role for MTSU in 2025. He made CUSA’s All-Freshman team, with 32 of his 54 kickoffs going for touchbacks.
Malachi Fannin-Render, RB (5’8 and 180 lbs), Liberty — He ran the ball just two times for six yards as a true freshman in 2025, but he’s a highly regarded talent. His high school tape makes you think a bit of Wayne Knight, as Fannin-Render runs low to the ground and does well to break tackles. On3 reported that he’s coming to JMU, although he’s yet to announce.
Daniel Michel, OL (6’6, 328 lbs) FIU — Michel started 11 games at RT this past season at FIU. He came on late in the season, posting four straight games with a PFF grade of 62+. He has two years of eligibility remaining. Good first OL to commit for Billy Napier as the Dukes look to replace 4 of the 5 starters from last season.
Corey Scott, WR (6’1 and 180 lbs), West Florida — He went over 1,000 receiving yards in 2025 and had offers from Virginia Tech and Michigan State. He has two years of eligibility left.
Jakolbi Wilson, DT (6’3 and 315 lbs), Fort Hays State — A D2 standout, Wilson had 34 tackles and 7 TFLs as a junior in 2025. He’s a dominant presence in the running game and explosive for his size. He’s a nice pickup along the defensive front.
Terrence Jones, DB (6’2 and 195 lbs), Fordham — A rising junior, Jones has game. He recorded 54 tackles a season ago and posted an 80.9 PFF grade in 849 snaps. Fordham struggled in 2025, going 1-11, but Jones was a bright spot defensively.
Arrington Maiden, QB (6’3, 225 lbs) Memphis — Maiden is an intriguing prospect. Memphis fans seemed to really want to keep the rising R-SO who will have three years of eligibility. He redshirted in 2024 and appeared in seven games in 2025 with his best performance coming against Tulane where he went 4/6 for 51 yards and tacked on 35 rushing yards and a TD. QB competition should be fun!

Jayon Harvey, DB (5’11 and 190 lbs), Findlay — Over the past two seasons, he has 109 tackles and seven interceptions. He’s a highly productive DB who should compete for immediate playing time. He has two years of eligibility left.
Kylan Billiot, WR (6’3, 195 lbs) LSU — Oh, alright! The Dukes get a hugely talented prospect with three years of eligibility remaining. Billiot began his career at LSU in 2024 after being recruited as a Top 100 Recruit, he then saw the field once in 2025 and entered the portal at the end of the season. He is a big body, something the Dukes receiving corps was searching for, that allows the Dukes to stress opposing defenses.
Hayden Ross, LS (6′ and 185 lbs), ETSU — Another long snapper! With three seasons of eligibility left, Ross adds depth to the special teams unit.
Rasheed Lovelace, DT (6’3 and 310 lbs), Nicholls — The run-stuffer has 92 career tackles over 29 games. He’s an experienced player who earned preseason FCS All-American honors in 2025 but only played five games. When available, he’s a star. His 85.7 PFF run defense grade in 2024 was elite. He’s a potential starter in Harrisonburg. He seemingly has just one year of eligibility left.
Seth Cromwell, RB (5’11 and 220 lbs), Northern Arizona — Cromwell has over 1,300 rushing yards and 18 rushing TDs over the past two seasons. He’s hard to bring down, with over 1,000 yards after contact in 2024 and 2025. He’s also an above average pass blocker, earning a grade a tick above 70 in 2025 on PFF. He’ll likely be a short-yardage option and rotational back for the Dukes in his final year of eligibility.
Chukwunedu Okeke, DT (6’4 and 305 lbs), Western Kentucky — He only had one tackle in 2025 as a redshirt freshman, but he has three years of eligibility left and good traits. He’s a solid depth addition along the defensive front with starting upside in the future.
Danny Royster, DE (6’3 and 236 lbs), University of Indianapolis — Royster has one year of eligibility remaining. He began his career at Ball State then transferred down to UIndy of DII for one season where he notched 36 tackles in 13 games with 13 TFLs and 7.5 sacks. Memphis also offered Royster, but he picked JMU.
Cole Keller, TE (6’5 and 240 lbs), East Tennessee State — Keller spent 2025 with new JMU OC Cam Aiken, catching 22 passes for 226 yards and two scores. He previously played for D2 Washburn, before making the smooth transition to the FCS. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Mitchell Dietzel, LS (6’4 and 230 lbs), Eastern Michigan — The least sexy of positions, long snapper plays an important role on special teams. With 24 starts at EMU, Dietzel likely becomes a Day 1 starter for the Dukes. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Kevin Roberts, DT (6’1 and 285 lbs), West Florida — He’s a potential starter in the trenches after posting 45 tackles, 18 TFLs and 9 sacks in 2025. Tulane, Houston, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest were among the other schools recruiting Roberts, but he’ll be a Duke in 2026. He has two years of eligibility left.
Transfer retentions
These players entered the portal before deciding to return to JMU.
Mychal McMullin, DT — McMullin returns after posting 32 tackles and 2.5 TFLs in 2025. He should be a contributor again in 2026, and he could have a breakout season at the position as his ascension continues. Going into 2024, McMullin drew high praise from then defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill and in 2025 was a solid rotational defensive tackle for the Dukes.
Braeden Wisloski, WR — The Maryland transfer caught 26 passes for 358 yards and four scores. He played well as the season progressed, although he wasn’t the Dukes top option in the passing game. He might be a top target in 2026, though. Wisloski showed an ability to make contested catches and make plays after the catch in 2025. He’s a valuable weapon to have next fall.
Amar Thomas, DE — An underrated standout, Thomas has one year of eligibility left. He was extremely steady for the Dukes on early downs in 2025, developing into a reliable piece of an elite Sun Belt defense. He finished with a PFF grade just below 80, the third-best mark on the 2025 defense. He had 43 tackles, 6.5 TFLs, and 2.5 sacks in 2025.
Transfer departures
Trent Wilson, OL to Iowa — Wilson developed into a key contributor for JMU as a true freshman. He’ll join a program known for great offensive line play. He has NFL potential down the road.
Kai Callen, DB — Callen redshirted in 2025 and has 4 years of eligibility remaining.
JD Rayner, OL to UCLA —Rayner played in one game in 2025 to preserve his redshirt. He has all four years of eligibility remaining and will join Chesney in California.
Jacob Bailey, OL —Bailey redshirted in 2025 and will have all 4 years of eligibility remaining.
Stephen Hollander, DB — Hollander played in 5 career games during his four years at JMU. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Drew Spinogatti, LB to UCLA — Spinogatti announced he is entering the portal after one year in Harrisonburg. He began his collegiate career with Bob Chesney at Holy Cross and has one year of eligibility remaining.
Landon Ellis, WR to UCLA — Ellis came to Harrisonburg after spending his first two seasons at the FCS level with Richmond. He made an immediate impact for JMU, leading the team in receiving yards and tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns.
Aiden Gobaira, DL to UCLA — Gobaira was a question mark when he got to Harrisonburg after being forced to medically retire at Notre Dame. The former 4-star prospect was a key player at the EDGE spot for the Dukes proving he is still able to play at a high level. Gobaira had 38 tackles this season with 7.5 TFLs and 4 sacks, he’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.
Carter Sweazie, OL to UCLA — Sweazie has been a constant along the offensive line for JMU logging over 1,300 snaps the last three seasons. Per PFF, he was the 5th highest rated offensive lineman who logged 100+ snaps for JMU in both pass and run blocking. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Sahir West, DL — Sahir West will get a ton of interest in the portal. After redshirting in 2024, West was a top end defensive end for the Dukes in 2025. He racked up 45 tackles in 14 games played with 14 TFLs and seven sacks. He punctuated the season with an impressive Sun Belt Championship Game against Troy where he had 5.5 TFLs and three sacks. With three years of eligibility remaining he is likely to be one of the top portal targets at the EDGE spot.
Wayne Knight, RB to UCLA — Wayne Knight has entered the portal. The All-American running back was an all-purpose star in 2025, rushing for over 1,300 yards and posting over 300 receiving yards, too. He’s a stud, and he should thrive at UCLA.
Alonza Barnett, QB to UCF — This one hurts. The Sun Belt Player of the Year in 2025, Barnett spent four seasons at JMU and led the team to a Sun Belt title and CFP appearance this fall. He also started in 2024, as the Dukes went 9-4. Barnett will join a Big 12 team for the 2026 season.
Justin Eaglin, CB to Colorado — A redshirt junior in 2025, Eaglin had 35 tackles and 5 INTs. He was a solid Sun Belt player, although he also gave up long touchdowns on several occasions. He was a streaky CB, but he’ll join Deion Sanders for the 2026 season.
DJ Barksdale, CB to UCLA — One of JMU’s most entertaining players, the undersized defensive back has great closing speed and knows how to blow up a WR screen. He had 93 tackles and four interceptions in his three-year JMU career. He’ll stay with Chesney next year.
Joseph Simmons, OL to Auburn — JMU’s left tackle is in the portal. His size and experience give him a legitimate shot to make a difference in the SEC.
Riley Robell, OL to UCLA — An athletic guard, Robell will follow Chesney to UCLA. He’s a stud when healthy.
Tyler Brown, S to Iowa — Brown became a sophomore starter for the Dukes, finishing with 80 tackles and flashing the athleticism necessary to play at the P4 level.
Immanuel Ezeogu, DE to Colorado — A standout redshirt freshman, Ezeogu was used in specific blitz and pass rush packages. He had four TFLs in 2025.
Ayo Adeyi, RB to Oklahoma State — Adeyi was never healthy at JMU, but he was a standout for North Texas. He’s talented, but injuries derailed his two JMU seasons. He’ll join a Big 12 program with a high-powered offensive scheme and an elite QB in Drew Mestemaker. Adeyi won’t be the primary running back, but he could be a rotational guy.
Josh Phifer, TE to UCLA — Primarily a blocking tight end, Phifer was a standout in the running game. He’s an incredibly physical blocker with receiving upside. He could make an impact for UCLA, especially in the running game.
Lacota Dippre, TE to Florida — An elite athlete, Dippre began his career as a DE for Charlotte before switching to TE at JMU. He missed a few blocks and had drops late in the season, but he has the athletic traits to develop into a successful and reliable tight end.
Jacob Hohenshelt, OL — A reserve offensive linemen with three years of eligibility left, Hohenshelt might go elsewhere for more playing time. He’s a big-bodied prospect (6’4 and 295 lbs) with upside.
Cristiano Rosa, K — JMU’s kickoff specialist enters the portal looking for a new home. He has a strong leg, but he was a backup option on field goals.
Andrew VanSlyke, P/K — A backup specialist returns to the portal. He was in the portal last year before returning in the spring as a depth piece. He’ll go try to find playing time elsewhere.
Jacob Bailey, OL — Bailey redshirted in 2025 and has four years of eligibility left.
Transfer targets
Target is a broad word here, as there are a lot of behind-the-scenes conversations we don’t know about, but these players have posted on social media that JMU has offered them. This list gives an idea of some of the players JMU is targeting in the portal.
Liam Danitz, DE (6’5 and 230 lbs), Hope College — The D3 prospect put up crazy numbers in 2025, recording 21 TFLs and 15 sacks. He has track speed, too, running under 21 seconds in the 200-meter dash. His tools could use some polishing, but his athletic traits are insane.
Noah Grevious, WR (6′ and 200 lbs), VMI — The Charlottesville native seems like a natural fit after bringing in 52 catches for 728 yards and three TDs in 2025 as a redshirt freshman.
Josiah Graham, DE (6’3 and 250 lbs), Monmouth — He put up 9.5 sacks for Monmouth in 2025 after beginning his career at Emory & Henry. The Virginia native would be a big plus up front after posting a solid 74.1 PFF grade in his first FCS season.
Christian Lorenzo, DT (6’3 and 305 lbs), Illinois State — He’s also had stops at Illinois and Georgia State, but Lorenzo was at his best for Illinois State in 2025. He had 29 tackles and 5 TFLs for a team that went to the FCS title game.
Brooks Johnson, TE (6’6 and 245 lbs), Coastal Carolina — He caught 11 passes for 87 yards and a score in 2025, and he’s also been offered by Virginia Tech. He’s an above average pass blocker, according to PFF grades.
Adonis McDaniel, WR (5’10 and 170 lbs), Mercer — McDaniel produces. Period. He went over 1,000 yards in 2024 at Lenoir-Rhyne. In 2025, he caught 52 passes for 671 yards and six touchdowns for Mercer.
Terell Thomas, edge (6’5 and 240 lbs), from Washburn — He began at Emory & Henry after playing high school ball at Menchville in the 757. He posted photos from a JMU visit on his social media accounts.

Kennedy Uzoma, WR (6’5 and 220 lbs), UNC — He didn’t play as a freshman in 2025, but Uzoma’s size and skill has other FBS programs interested.
Jeremiah Harrison, WR (6’1 and 178 lbs), ETSU — He’s from the same North Carolina high school (Julius L. Chambers) as three current Dukes, and his former OC is now at JMU. But the rising sophomore is also receiving major Power Conference interest. If JMU can convince him to play in Harrisonburg, the Dukes will land a star. He caught 38 passes for 652 yards and five scores in 2025. He’s a beast.
Enoch Wangoy, OL (6’7 and 333 lbs), Florida — Wangoy didn’t play over two seasons with the Gators, but he has three years left and knows the coaching staff. His imposing size makes him an intriguing prospect.
Kaleb James, DL (6’4 and 275 lbs), Arkansas — He didn’t play much for Arkansas, but he has two years of eligibility left and has the size and traits needed to succeed in the Sun Belt.
Tyler Brown, OL (6’3 and 325 lbs), Colorado — He also played for Napier at Louisiana and at Jackson State. He’s logged over 1,800 career snaps, but didn’t play much in 2025. He was a 12-game starter for the program in 2024, and he’d be a potential starter up front.
Sam Pickett III, WR (6′ and 185 lbs), Samford — He cooked as a freshman, hauling in 33 passes for 450 yards and two touchdowns. Could be a good Sun Belt receiver immediately.
Balaam Miller, DT (6’4 and 311 lbs), St. Francis — While his team went 0-11 in 2025, Miller looked the part. He had 25 tackles, including five TFLs in nine games. He’s also looking at Memphis, per reports.
Ziggy Loa, DE (6’3 and 255 lbs), ULM — The former JUCO star had six tackles for ULM over limited snaps in 2025.
Tyson Rooks, CB (6’4 and 205 lbs), Illinois — A reserve defensive back for Illinois, Rooks was also offered by FAU.
Kylan Billiot, WR (6’3 and 193 lbs), LSU — Billiot appeared in just one game over two seasons, but the former four-star recruit has three years of eligibility left and could thrive at the G5 level.
Jaylen Bowden, CB (6’1 and 180 lbs), Minnesota — He had three tackles in three games in 2025, but in 2024 he was a star for NC Central. He posted a PFF grade above 80 in 2024 and could become an impact player at corner in the Sun Belt.
Taron Dickens, QB (5’11 and 180 lbs), Western Carolina — He’s probably not at a P4 school yet because he’s slightly undersized, but he’s a stud. Dickens threw for over 3,000 yards in 2025, tossing 38 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He added another 300 rushing yards and a score. He received a 90.7 PFF grade in 2025. He has a bright future.
Mario Nash Jr., OL (6’5 and 305 lbs), Florida State — Nash redshirted as a freshman in 2025, adding strength and weight to compete at the college level. The potential is there for the young offensive lineman.

He has exceptional size and if able to live up to his potential, could be a brick wall in the Sun Belt.
Isaiah Green, S (6’1, 180 lbs) Portland State — Green has played in 25 games across three season at Portland State, he redshirted in 2023 and has become a go to starter his last two seasons and was an all conference selection in 2025. Frankie Tinilau, OL (6’6, 325 lbs) ETSU — Tinilau began at Miami where he appeared in two games over two seasons. He spent 2025 with ETSU where he played in all games at LET. Ezra Christensen, DL (6’2, 280 lbs) New Mexico St. — Christensen began his collegiate career at San Diego Mesa College, a JuCo in California, then played two years at Fresno State and spent 2025 at New Mexico St. where he balled out. Christensen racked up 42 tackles, 11 TFLs and six sacks in 11 games played. His PFF grade of 88.0 was the third best in the nation among non-EDGE defensive linemen.

Now, across three years with the Tar Heels, he has played in 29 games racking up 12 catches for 276 yards and 3 TDs he also returned kicks taking 2 to the house in 2024.
