JMU football TE KD Mosley arrested after alleged assault

JMU tight end KD Mosley was arrested in early February, according to Harrisonburg/Rockingham General District Court records.

Mosley, a Howard transfer, officially signed with the Dukes in late January with two years of eligibility left. The 6’3 and 235-pound tight end allegedly committed assault and battery on Feb. 7. Mosley was also charged with having a fake ID.

The court record seems to incorrectly label Mosley as a female, but the name and date of birth both match the JMU tight end. Mosley’s future status on the team is uncertain.

“We are aware of an incident that occurred earlier in February, which is being addressed according to department and university policy,” a JMU athletics spokesperson told JMU Sports News in a statement.

Assault and battery is a Class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia, and the maximum penalties include up to a year in jail and/or a fine of $2,500. Possessing a fake ID is a Class 2 misdemeanor, and the maximum penalty is six months and/or a fine of $1,000. It’s common for penalties to fall below those maximum standards, especially for first-time offenders. The tight end has an initial hearing for his case on Feb. 23.

Mosley appeared to post a video of the alleged assault to his Instagram story. Some fans recorded the social media post from Mosley’s account, which shows someone (the person’s face is not on camera) hitting a college-aged individual after a verbal disagreement. The video includes the caption, “smacked his goofy ahh” with two laughing emojis.

“As far as any videos that may be circulating in a public space, we cannot confirm any identities in videos or actions by any specific individuals,” the JMU spokesperson said.

Mosley’s arrival was important for JMU’s depth at tight end. Lacota Dippre (Florida) and Josh Phifer (UCLA) both transferred this offseason, and Logan Kyle graduated. The Dukes hit the portal for reinforcements, adding Mosley, West Chester’s Thatcher Miller and ETSU’s Cole Keller.

Mosley played over 600 snaps and recorded limited receiving totals in two seasons at Howard. Memphis and Coastal Carolina were among the other programs recruiting him out of the portal before he settled on JMU, suggesting he had the ability to play meaningful snaps at the G6 level.

It’s unclear what team or university disciplinary action Mosley could face in the near future. JMU has yet to officially post its 2026 roster to its website, but the Dukes did officially announce Mosley’s signing last month.
