Last newsletter – On Friday we said, “Expect well over 10 goals, a strong defensive showing and a 4-1 record once Friday’s game winds down.”
The Dukes delivered – JMU (4-1) destroyed Canisius (0-4) 21-4 behind a stellar defensive showing and offensive contributions from nearly everyone who played. Nine different Dukes scored two goals in the victory, and JMU scored more goals (21) than Canisius had shot attempts (12). The Golden Griffins aren’t great, but the Dukes looked efficient and deep in the win.
Up next – JMU travels to Penn State (3-2) on Wednesday. The Nittany Lions are on a two-game losing streak after opening the season 3-0. The hot start included a 13-7 win over Towson, one of the CAA’s better teams. Penn State lost to ranked teams in Princeton and Loyola. This is a much tougher matchup than the game against Canisius, but still a game JMU can win.
