JMU-Themed True Brvnd Hats Are ‘In Production,” Ben DiNucci Says

True Brvnd, a popular hat and streetwear brand co-owned by former JMU quarterback Ben DiNucci, is in the process of making a JMU-themed hat.

DiNucci told JMU Sports News in an exclusive interview that the hats are “in production” and he’s hopeful they’ll be ready to roll out by the end of October “at the latest.”

The free agent NFL quarterback says he’ll share official details about purchasing the hats via social media when those details become available. The JMU hat design has yet to be publicly released.

What’s True Brvnd?

DiNucci says he receives frequent questions and words of support from JMU fans about True Brvnd, but for those who don’t know about the company and its hats, they’ve soared in popularity in recent years. The Dallas-based company is veteran owned and operated and started in 2020, and the early hats featured “DALLAS” written upside down as a nod to the “upside down” days of the pandemic.

DiNucci helped spearhead the brand’s popularity, spreading the word about the hats to some of his teammates when he played for the Dallas Cowboys. Some of the franchise’s most prominent players, including CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and Dak Prescott have worn True Brvnd’s hats, and the company has an Instagram following of more than 100,000. NBA players Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving have also worn the hats, and musician Post Malone has performed in the company’s hats.

The former seventh-round draft pick teased the possibility of a JMU-True Brvnd collaboration on social media in late 2023.

“Who wants True Brvnd X JMU in 2024?” DiNucci wrote on Twitter. The post received more than 35,000 views, with JMU fans eagerly replying about their desire for the collaboration. Fans of the Dukes won’t have to wait much longer for the JMU hat to hit the market, although if the company’s other hat sales are any indication, the JMU hats could sell out rapidly.

True Brvnd also has college-themed hats for several Texas universities, including SMU, TCU, and Rice.
