JMU football will play at Virginia in 2028, the program announced Friday. The Dukes’ previously scheduled P4 game against North Carolina will move to 2031.
JMU and UVA last met in 2023, with the Dukes winning 36-35 in Charlottesville. That was the first meeting between the programs in 40 years.
“The game is good for both programs, both of our respective fan bases, and the Commonwealth at large,” AD Matt Roan said in a news release.
Over 50,000 fans attended the 2023 matchup between the in-state programs. It gives JMU another in-state Power 4 game on its schedule, after Virginia Tech canceled the 2026 meeting between the Virginia schools.
The Dukes don’t have a 2026 Power Conference opponent, but they have a few matchups with P4 teams locked up in future years. In 2027, the Dukes visit Maryland. In 2028, JMU will now play Virginia. In 2029, the Dukes travel tot he Sunshine State to face UCF. In 2031, JMU will face North Carolina.
