JMU football is bowl eligible, reaching six wins last weekend. So where might the Dukes go bowling? Here’s what a handful of recent projections suggest.

JMU vs. Utah in College Football Playoff on Dec. 19

A return trip to the CFP? That’s what CFN predicts. The Dukes would visit the Big 12 champion in the first round of the playoff.

Delaware vs. JMU in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 23

The latest projections from CBS Sports have the Dukes facing the Blue Hens in the New Orleans Bowl. I’m skeptical of this one, as Delaware is just 2-4 on the season with an injured starting quarterback. Will Delaware even reach six wins?

Again, I’m not so sure Delaware is bowl bound. If the Blue Hens do qualify for the postseason, the Dukes would be huge favorites against a middling CUSA team. The matchup obviously has history, as the programs were recently conference rivals.

Kyle Bonagura: Ohio vs. JMU in the Cure Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 22

Mark Schlabach: Jacksonville State vs. JMU in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 23

These are decent matchups against solid Group of Six opponents. Ohio has been competitive in the MAC for a long time, and Jacksonville State is the biggest threat to Liberty in CUSA this fall.

Both warm-weather venues would attract decent JMU crowds.

Jacksonville State vs. JMU in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 23

Another projection for JMU to play in the New Orleans Bowl around Christmas. The matchup against a CUSA favorite would be decently intriguing. It’s not a CFP game, of course, but this wouldn’t be a terrible fate for JMU.

A rematch of the season opener to end the season? It’s unclear if either team (or the bowl itself) would go for a rematch, but it’d be intriguing. JMU won the opener, 20-13, in Harrisonburg.

Understandably, JMU fans are likely rooting for a new opponent to close out the season with some variety.
