JMU football is bowl bound, but the Dukes’ College Football Playoff hopes took a huge hit in last week’s loss to App State.
So where might JMU play this postseason? Here’s what some of the latest projections say.
ESPN
Kyle Bonagura: JMU vs. Ohio in the Cure Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 22
Mark Schlabach: JMU vs. Jacksonville State in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 23
Neither matchup is awful for the Group of Six level, even if fans will want the Dukes in the Sun Belt’s Puerto Rico spot playing an ACC team. The locations of these two projections are ideal. A winter trip to Orlando or New Orleans? Not bad.
CBS Sports
JMU vs. Jacksonville State in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 23
Another projection of this JMU vs. Jacksonville State game. The Gamecocks are Liberty’s biggest threat in CUSA this season, and it would be a decent matchup between competitive G6 teams. The Dukes could likely be favored.
Sports Illustrated
JMU vs. New Mexico in the Cure Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 22
Now this would rule. Jason Eck’s New Mexico team beat NDSU last week, and the Lobos are a College Football Playoff contender. If they don’t make it, they’d be an incredible bowl opponent. This, of course, assumes Eck hasn’t been hired by a Power Conference team and left yet, but he seems like someone who wants to finish the year with his guys. He gives off Bob Chesney vibes.
