It was a special Friday night for JMU’s Kamiah Smalls.

Not only was it Kamiah’s birthday, but the JMU women’s basketball star also saw her name flash across ESPN.

She was the 28th overall pick of the 2020 WNBA Draft. She’s headed to join the Indiana Fever.

The Fever went 13-21 and just missed out on the postseason last year. Smalls hopes to carve out a contributing role on the roster whenever WNBA training camps begin.

Smalls was juuuuust a little bit excited to be selected.

Not a bad birthday for Smalls, who won CAA Player of the Year honors this season. She becomes just the fourth JMU women’s basketball player ever to be picked in the WNBA Draft.
